Plain City to move old train depot from Northwest Columbus to anchor uptown project
The village of Plain City will be moving an old train depot from Northwest Columbus to the village as a centerpiece of its Center of Market Square project.
The village closed on the deal to buy the depot from the Fromm family of Upper Arlington. The village is paying $150,000 for it, Village Administrator Haley Lupton said. The Plain City Village Council approved the purchase on Monday, Lupton said.
Barry Fromm moved the depot from the village of Brice in 2004 to 921 Old Henderson Road, where it was restored. The original walls and ceilings were kept while other components were salvaged from other buildings.
The 1,473-square foot depot was built in the 1880s at Brice to serve the Shawnee and Columbus Railway.
